The Treehouse Island

The Treehouse Island

  • $755.00

by artist Aaron Yap

Through his narrative-driven approach — a result of his love of reading stories — Aaron Yap depicts the homes of his otherworldly creatures. Featured are imagined environments in the Atlantic Ocean and a rocky river terrain in Canada. Through his painting, Yap evokes a sentimental sense of nostalgia. However, instead of depicting the sense of ‘belonging’ through the creature’s physical boundaries, what underlines both paintings are the emotional connection and security associated with the closely knit Mergazelle family he has conceived.

This is the story of my tiny fantasy island in the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is in-between of South America & Africa. I created my imagination treehouse in the middle of this island. The treehouse has contrasting colours to attract surreal animals to come to my treehouse. It is the Mergazelle Family who live on the tiny island. They built a treehouse & high chair on this island. In between, there was a suspended bridge to cross it. The Mergazelle has wings to fly & a fishtail to swim for food. During the day, the Mergazelle has to climb over the rooftop treehouse and high chair for sunbathing. Finally, it takes a nap under the tree.
