William Chia became quadriplegic after an unfortunate diving accident in 1981. In 2007, he further suffered a stroke and lost his ability to speak. However with much persistence and rehabilitation, his condition improved and William was able to move around with a wheelchair. At the encouragement of his wife, William decided to explore painting with his mouth. Following hours of practice, he is now able to paint detailed watercolour landscapes and enjoys the activity, viewing it as a form of therapy that gives him the strength and confidence to move on.
