Empowering artists to teach at festival

Dec 04, 2022

, Community Engagement

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) was first proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations to raise disability awareness and advocate for the equal integration of PWDs in everyday life. ART:DIS is proud to be part of this movement and together with SG Enable, in conjunction with the Enabling Lives Festival, we presented a series of inclusive art workshops.

Conducted by our SPED-trained instructors and artists with disabilities, these workshops demonstrated our holistic approach to learning and were also an opportunity for our artists to lead by example. Through interactions with participants, our artists built their confidence in public speaking and shared their love of art. Over 585 PWDs with their caregivers and non-disabled individuals turned up to celebrate International Day of PWDs with ART:DIS and we hope they gained a deeper and broader understanding of who PWDs are and what they can achieve when given the right opportunities and support.
