From end-February to early-March 2023, Punggol Regional Library (PRL) was the site of inclusive cyanotype workshops conducted by ART:DIS teacher Billy Soh and 6 of our artists-in-training – Ariel Koh, Kenneth Lee, Serene Sng, Chong Yao Qing, Trevor Lee and Beatrice Goh. Together with over 195 residents of Punggol, they co-created more than 100 rich blue artworks that reflected the neighbourhood’s waterfront identity using one of the oldest print-making techniques known to men.
Titled Stories of the Sea, these works were installed along the first and second levels of PRL and was unveiled by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Lawrence Wong during the library’s official opening. This inclusive mural project with the National Library Board was a good stepping stone for our young artists to be future workshop assistants, and also provided meaningful touchpoints for the public to collaborate with persons with disabilities on an art initiative, tightening the fabric of our society.
