Literary festival showcases diverse perspectives from artists with disabilities

ART:DIS was honoured to be invited back for the third time to Singapore Writers Festival (SWF). In its 23rd edition, which will be presented digitally due to the pandemic, writers, poets and thinkers converged to contemplate Intimacy during a time of social distancing. 

Our neurodiverse students thought long and hard about how their relationship with friends and family was affected. With the guidance from literary partner Writing Through, they wrote a series of poems which were then live-read to the accompaniment of specially-composed music from the Jazz Association of Singapore.

Additionally, 8 of our artists and allies were commissioned create a multi-disciplinary body of work that responded to a poem Perspectives (Even in a bad situation). From brush strokes and monologues, to dance movements and music, the confluence of artistic expressions from persons with disabilities showcased the depth, breadth and richness of their perspectives.
