How much can we truly perceive from someone else’s story? How much of what we take in is shaped by their truth and how much by our own lens?
In this multi-sensory art experience, replete with prose, poetry, art installations and performances, visitors are invited into narratives that embody resilience, reflection, and reconnection. Through each narrow slit of a door left ajar, accompanied by soundscapes and light projections in a cavern-like space, glimpse a slice of life from 5 individuals of underserved communities. From stories of loss, love, identity and the longing to be seen and understood, come discover and discuss how we can treat each other more respectfully and with care.
Inspired by artist Claire Teo’s experiences as a visually impaired person, who often found her voice unheard in mainstream settings, Through The Looking Glass is part of Light to Night Festival 2025 at National Gallery Singapore. On site, visitors can access easy-read guides as well as recorded tracks of the artists’ monologues via QR codes. An audio description of the installation space will also be played on a continuous loop, enhancing the experience for all visitors.
